ADULT SUMMER CAMP MEETS TRANSFORMATIONAL RETREAT ON THE BIG ISLAND OF HAWAI‘I

Service
Education and connection with the ancient and present culture of land and people
Hawai’i is a living, breathing, current and ancient entity - not a tourist destination. Which is why a cornerstone of Chrysalis is to serve the local economy, community, and land. We interrupt the tourist trap, the imported food system model, and the extractive nature of tourism.
Spend your time immersed in the ancient and present culture of Hawai’i and North Kohala. Experience the rare and priceless opportunity to learn from locals about current restoration work, the re-igniting of the old ways, and how to show up as a Pono visitor - in right relationship to the land and people of Hawai’i. Strengthen the island through sincerely engaging with it’s culture.
You will spend time working the Lo’i - a restored and ancient farming system used pre-colonization and restored and tended by the Ahupua’a Restoration Initiative.
Eat local
Our menu is guided by what is in season, crafted around the fresh offerings from the sea, and shaped by the ‘Aina
The majority of Hawai’i’s food is imported from the continental United States. This leaves residents reliant on high priced foods, shipped over 2000 miles, and creates dependencies that undermine native resiliency. Chrysalis disrupts the imported food system model.
At Chrysalis, over 70% of the ingredients used in your meals come directly from the farms surrounding the retreat center.
Local farmers are supported, island based food systems are strengthened, and you get a taste of the real Hawai’i.
Reverence
Our transformational Morning Sessions ask you to return to center - to look inside at the tender places that drive you, shape you, hold you. This sacred pause invites a softening and exploration of your life. Who are you? And how do you long to move in this world?
Play
Through nature art and connection with your inner child, play brings us back to center. It balances the transformational work done in morning sessions, and brings light, curiosity and purpose back into your life.
